Where do you look?

Where do you look?

 4 Oct 2018

Carrying on from one of our recent blogs – ‘Looking for a job? Find a great recruiter’.  I would be really interested in hearing how you all got your last job.   Did you go through an agency?  Did you apply direct?  Where did you see the job advertised?

Recently I have been contacted on numerous occasions by new ‘job boards’ looking for us to sign up, stating they are different to the regular old standard job boards.  As a recruitment company we clearly monitor where our candidates come from (whether it be from a job board advert we posted, a LinkedIn search we undertook, a referral from another candidate etc).  We also keep a close eye on how job boards and adverts perform for us.  From our statistics we have had most success for finding candidates with our LinkedIn searches/blasts and job boards.  But keen to keep up with the times we are obviously aware of so many other platforms around for candidates to search for jobs.

Looking back at my own experiences, whenever I was looking for work previously I would always first and foremost go to the trusted sites – S1 Jobs, Total Jobs, Jobsite, Indeed, Monster, Reed, which would then normally lead me to a recruitment agency.  I always had good experiences with recruitment agencies,  with 2 out of my last 4 jobs were found via agencies.  If I were looking for a new role today (which obviously I’m not as I work for the best recruiters already) I wonder if my online search would be different.   Personally I would never normally have looked at Facebook for jobs, to me Facebook was a platform for me to share photos and chat with my friends and I never thought of it as a business platform.  But more and more I am seeing companies using Facebook Jobs, Instagram and even Snapchat to advertise.

As a company we have been looking at our marketing strategies and social media standing lately and are looking to see where we can improve and what we want to do next and I believe one of our next steps is to really ‘up our game’ on the social media advertising.   So to everyone out there looking for work at the moment, what is your first port of call when looking for work?   I’m pretty sure most people these days would go straight to the internet – but where do you look first?

Different advertising platforms can be more or less successful for different companies depending on what industry or sector you may be in.  At Red we recruit across various industries and sectors so it would be interesting to hear peoples’ views from all these walks of life?  Have you ever applied for a role from an advert you saw on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram?  Do you still prefer the standard job sites? Have a think back to your last role, how did you apply?  Get it touch and let us know
