Candidate Relationship

 28 Feb 2019

I always find it hard coming up with ideas for blogs.  Most advice I read suggests talking about something that is current and relevant to you within your working week.

Well…it’s been a pretty challenging week for me this week.  It doesn’t help that I am loaded with the cold, which has been sweeping its way through our office affecting most of us over the last few weeks.  But my week has been difficult mainly because I was let down by some candidates that were due to interview with one of our top clients.

We hear a lot of stories, from people on LinkedIn where recruiters get a bad name for not getting back to candidates etc.  Well it is a 2 way street and this week has seen me let down by more than 1 candidate.  Now whilst I completely understand that sometimes candidates change their mind about a role or decide to stay with their current employer, that I have no problem with.  It’s the candidates that you invite to interview, who sound enthusiastic and thank you for helping them along the way, then don’t turn up!! I unfortunately had this happen to me this week and to be fair, luckily this is not something we often come across.  But it does make me think, why would you not phone or email in just to let us know.  As recruiters we are here to help; we help people find work, we help people prepare for interview and we give advice and support where needed.    We spend time going into detail to ensure candidates know what to expect at interview, what they should be preparing for and sharing any wisdom we have, so it’s upsetting when we don’t get that common courtesy back.  One of the things that we here at Red pride ourselves on is our customer service and candidate journey.  We always aim to give feedback and keep candidates updated along the way and build strong working relationships with our candidates and clients.

So even though its been a tough week, I can look back and I know that I did all I could.  I know I gave them all the information and the support they needed and their actions were then out of my control.  We actually had a quote written on our wall for a long time stating ‘We are successful because we care more’.  And this is something we always go by.  So if you are in the market for a new role and want a recruiter that cares and will have your best interests at heart then get in touch.
