1 year on...

1 year on...

 30 May 2019

The start of this month marked my 1-year anniversary since starting with Red and if I’m honest, I really can’t believe it! There’s been a lot of changes in the past year, both within the company and in my own personal growth as a Recruiter. It was challenging at first, but overall, it’s been a great experience working through these changes and developing further in my career.

One transformation I must remark on firstly, is the confidence I have in my work now compared to in the beginning. Starting out I was nervous about everything! I’m an anxious person at the best of times, but I was just so worried that I wasn’t going to be a good investment for the business and ultimately, I didn’t want to let anyone down. Since getting that out of my head I feel that I have really thrived in my work – from headhunting, to conducting interviews, to giving feedback and everything else in between! I’m well on my way to becoming a successful Recruitment Consultant – if I do say so myself…

My favourite aspect of being a Recruiter has got to be sourcing candidates. Going through the job spec and narrowing down the essential requirements, then taking to the system – whether that be our software Firefish (#welovethefish), or to Total Jobs, or LinkedIn and commencing my search until I find that perfect candidate (sprinkled in fairy dust). It’s even better if they’re interested in the opportunity and from that, *hopefully* the good times just keep on coming.

Some changes that have happened over the course of the year within the business have really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, take on more responsibility and show initiative. Not to blow my own trumpet, or to sound like I’m giving an Oscar speech – but I’m proud to look at the progress I’ve made in the past year. However, none of my achievements would have amounted to anything if it weren’t for the terrific team I work alongside here at Red. They’re probably some of the most supportive individuals I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting and I’m going to stop now before this gets too soppy!!

Since I stepped into the world of recruitment, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that recruitment sounds “soul destroying” – due to unrealistic targets and excessive cold calling. Red is nothing like your stereotypical Recruitment Agency and that’s why I enjoy working here so much. We work together to make our own realistic targets and there’s no unnecessary pressure. We understand that some weeks your call stats may not be the best, but that’s usually down to the fact that you’ve been hammering the searches on LinkedIn etc., or it’s just down to the sheer fact that the role(s) rather tricky! Being stressed at work isn’t healthy for anyone and we work together to make sure everyone is happy with their workload and that everything’s divided up fairly.

Overall, it’s been an interesting year and I’m intrigued to see what’s next in store for me. Thank you also to my Red fam for my thoughtful gifts on my anniversary and you know… putting up with me for the past year!
