Job Hunt Tips #14 – Exercise

 28 Mar 2017

Walking, running, cycling, swimming or tennis. As long as you raise your heart rate for an hour a day you will find that you feel more productive and happier.  Hunting for a new job is hard in so many ways. Constantly looking for a job, applying and then waiting for feedback can rock the best of us but making sure that you get out into fresh air and work up a sweat can help you put everything into perspective.

I am not trying to proclaim that exercising will help you land your next job here.  What I would say though is that getting away from a job hunt to go for a run in the middle of the day or in the morning will allow you to clear your head and focus on other things.  Job hunting can usually be a lonely pursuit that can make things harder for the extroverts among us so heading to the gym in the morning or afternoon will give you your social injection for the day and then allow you to focus on the job hunt with vigor when you are finished.

There are plenty of ways that you can use your exercising as a way to network as well.  Join a local team. It might be football, netball, cycling or tennis, whatever you enjoy you can build out your network and let your team mates know that you are looking for work.  Joining fitness clubs, yoga or boot camps can have the same results and can in fact be better as they are usually attended by both men and women.

Whatever you choose to do enjoy it and give yourself that important time out.
