Candidate Journey

Candidate Journey

 25 May 2017

The 'War for Talent' debate started in 1997 and yet twenty years on candidates are still experiencing poor levels of service from some organisations and recruiters throughout their journey from application to interview outcome. Therefore, in a hyper competitive market with increased pressure to improve our service and retain talent, why are we letting candidates down?

The drive for speed, efficiency and short term gain, whilst perhaps reducing our task today, does not future-proof our organisations in the long term.  Candidates in the labour market deserve a high standard of service throughout their search and, as a job for life is no longer aspirational or realistic, we as recruitment professionals, hiring managers and HR leaders should deliver the best brand experience from interview to offer or unsuccessful outcome. Working in the service industry for over twenty years I pride myself on service to both candidates and stakeholders delivering feedback and unsuccessful outcomes to the same standard as I offer, following up when news is challenging and supporting even when there is no personal gain.

The talent we compete to find, recruit and retain deserve a quality experience and are our future customers who promote our brand to others therefore deserve respect and support in their job search. Keeping candidates informed, striving to give feedback when you agreed and delivering outcomes with clarity. Your future brand depends on it.
