Can you hear us?

Can you hear us?

 8 Jun 2017

On election day, as many of us head to our local polling station to cast our vote, it seems fitting to think about employee voice and how our workplace listens to its workers.

The labour market has changed over recent elections and some companies have reviewed the way they manage their teams. In an unstable economic climate it has become key that management styles work in unison with today's workers. The traditional career ladder and employee loyalty are increasingly outdated and, therefore, the hierarchical top down style of leadership no longer inspires employees. Those organisations who have moved towards more distributive management empowering employees to share ideas, mentoring across generations using collaboration are thought to result in greater levels of engagement, motivation, increased productivity and greater innovation; therefore in order to remain successful and sustainable organisations need to look to European countries like Germany for inspiration, where lawful works councils and the concept of cooperation gives voice to employees.

As we step into the ballot box today with the power to shape the country so too do we have the power to shape our businesses.
