Job Hunt Tips #1 - Have A Plan

 21 Mar 2017

Are you looking for a new job at the moment or are you merely thinking about making a move this year? Great stuff, let’s get to work.
One thing is for sure, it is hard to get a new job at this moment in time especially for many of our candidates in the Oil and Gas field but let’s try and be upbeat, proactive and efficient.
Whenever you come to look for a new job it is important that before you begin you have more of an idea about what it is that you are looking for and defining exactly how you propose to achieve this.
Be specific.
There are 2 ships in a port and both want to get to a designated port in another country. The Captain of the first ship plots out his route on a map, checks the weather amongst other things and sets sail. The Captain of the second ship simply sets sail and hopes for the best. It doesn’t take Rudi Beichel to work out that the first Captain will excluding any “acts of god” achieve his goal and arrive at his destination whilst Captain 2 will no doubt ending up wishing he had sails when he eventually runs out of fuel.
Oddly enough many job hunters seem to take the approach of the second Captain thinking that they will simply arrive at their destination port, in this case a new job by simply leaving the port.
This is quite frankly ludicrous. If you really want to start the year off with a new job you must put together a plan of action. Define the job that you want, work out where they will be advertised, get in touch with Recruiters in this field and network with professionals in this area. Pull everything you want to do together into a plan, allocate time on your calendar and then get to work.
