What do your hobbies say about you?

What do your hobbies say about you?

 10 May 2018

There isn’t really a day that goes by in recruitment where we are not reviewing a CV or 50.   Your CV is your chance to sell your skills and experience and tell us (recruiter/employers) why you are suitable for the role we are advertising.  We previously covered the 10 'must haves' for your CV but other than the obvious skills/experience/education sections what else can your CV tell us about you?  Up until a few weeks ago I probably wouldn’t have ever said that it mattered if you had a ‘hobbies and interests’ section as it’s not something I’ve ever used to help match a suitable candidate to a job…but as mentioned by a client of ours recently, hearing about a candidates activities outside the work place can tell us a lot about them as a person and how they may handle situations and take on tasks.

Have a think about your CV…have you purely listed a number of activities that you enjoy or have you actually used them to your advantage to show your positive characteristics.   Think about how you can translate your hobbies into skills (team work, commitment, determination).  It can then also be a great talking point for an interview as you never know when you might have common interests with the hiring manager that will set you apart from the crowd.
