Crew Operator

Our marine client, based in Middlesbrough, is looking for a Crew Operator who will be part of the wider European HR team. The Crew Operator role is critical for the overall success of the company’s UK operations, ensuring appropriately qualified seafarers are deployed to maintain full operational capability.

The Crew Operator will be responsible for the day-to-day crewing coordination with the local port teams. You will support the Crewing Manager and liaise with the Recruitment Officer to maintain a clear manpower and recruitment plan for current and future crewing requirements. You will also work closely with the training department to align succession planning and talent management alongside the local manpower plan.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT 
  • Degree or equivalent level of qualification
  • 3 + years of experience working within a crewing/HR function or a similar related discipline.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop strong business relationships with people in the organisation who may have varying levels of maritime knowledge
  • Strong IT skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to operate in a fast-paced environment, taking ownership and setting directions with minimal guidance
  • Proactive networking and establishing effective working relationships with crews and internal stakeholders
  • Strong data management and reporting skills
  • A creative problem solver with the ability to thrive in a rapidly growing and changing environment
  • Ability to engage well with a large range of colleagues of different qualifications and ranks
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • To support the Crewing Manager in maintaining the port’s manpower plan both for long term vacancies and for short term agency personnel
  • In liaison with the Operational Managers, ensure that the crew provided compliment the local team setup
  • Work closely with the training department and Recruitment Officer to align succession planning and talent management
  • Thorough understanding of IMO and STCW maritime regulations
  • Ensure that all seafarers within your remit have the correct qualifications and experience to work on company vessels
  • Ensure that all aspects of crew certification and compliance are maintained to legislative standards, including system management, in coordination with the wider crewing team
  • Support internal and external audits as required
  • Ensure that good communication is maintained between the port and crewing department regarding any changes
  • Support short term crewing requirements in liaison with the Crewing Manager
  • Collate and analyse data for monthly reports and operational statistics
  • Support the 24/7 duty phone on a rota basis
  • This role has some element of working from home
  • UK travel (Port visits) will be required
