An exciting new client of ours based in The Falkland Islands are looking for a Designated Person/Manager, for a Fixed Term Contract until 2023. The purpose of this role will be to ensure that the company operates in a professional and efficient manner and that the company’s vessel operates in a safe manner in compliance with the Company's Safety Management System and all relevant regulatory requirements.
 
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Designated Person qualification is highly desirable
  • Company Security Officer qualification is highly desirable
  • Good working knowledge of the International Safety Management Code for merchant vessels
  • Good working knowledge of the International Ship & Port Facility Security Code
  • Minimum of two years’ experience of working with safety management systems for ships required to comply with the ISM Code
  • Experience of working with ship security plans required to comply with the ISPS Code
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a management position in the maritime sector, either onboard vessels in an engineering or deck officer position or in a shore-based role
  • The ability to work cooperatively with other people in a small team without creating conflicts which need to be resolved by more senior company personnel
  • A friendly and outgoing manner which promotes a positive working environment
  • Attention to detail and a good ability in planning given that the Falklands are a remote location with long supply chains
  • Full clean driving licence
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Act as the Designated Person fulfilling the responsibilities required of that role as detailed in the Company's Safety Management Manual
  • Act as Company Security Officer fulfilling the responsibilities required of that role as detailed in the Company Security Plan
  • Act as the Manager fulfilling the responsibilities required of that role as detailed in the Company’s Safety Management Manual
  • Organise crewing schedules for the vessel, including recruitment of appropriately qualified personnel and arranging all travel to and from the vessel
  • Undertake all necessary arrangements for vessel port calls
  • Liaise with relevant third parties, including but not limited to the charterer, flag state administration and suppliers of good and services
  • Assist the vessel superintendent in co-ordination of vessel maintenance and works
  • Oversee the Stanley office accounting function
  • Ensure that all company expenditure is carefully controlled in order to minimise costs
