GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION


Our client is looking for a high quality marine engineer to join their team in the Netherlands as an Engineering Instructor.   This role will suit a marine professional who is looking to develop their skills, motivate and train other professionals with a particular focus on environmental competency.
 
As an Engineering Instructor, you will become a role model for our clients Engineering Staff on board their ships. Your role will not just be to instruct and teach ship-board personnel, but you will also be involved in developing best practices that can be implemented on board the ships. An important element of the role will also be to visit the cruise ships from time-to-time, thereby ensuring that the teachings from the classroom and simulators are actually implemented onboard.

Established since 2009, our client is a world class marine training centre based in Netherlands, specialising in safety and excellence in maritime operations.  They have advanced simulator equipment and technology and provide first- class maritime training. 
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
 
We are looking for experienced engineers and successful candidates will typically be or have been in the not too distant past, Chief Engineer, Senior Electrical Technical Officer, Staff Chief Engineer, Senior First Engineer or First Engineer. They may currently work ship-side or considering returning to a ship in the near future. We expect all candidates to have at least 10+ years of sea time in order to have the credibility to teach others. Cruise ship experience is definitely preferred although those candidates who have instructed in engine room simulators are also encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to have a passion to teach others and possess the right people skills.
  • Experienced Marine Engineer or Subject Matter Expert (SME) shipboard environmental compliance, would be preferred;
  • Cruise Ship experience is preferred;
  • Previous experience in teaching/instructing would be preferred, especially in a marine setting;
  • Must hold a Class 2 CoC, Class 1 preferred.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION 
  • Delivering environmental training to ship-board staff;
  • Developing & delivering courses/new procedures to be implemented on board ships related to environmental procedures and requirements;
  • Based in the Netherlands with a high number ship visits;
  • Keeping up to date with current practices, technology and regulatory environmental compliance;
  • Regular ship visits to maintain/update and verify that best practices and procedures are being adhered to.
