Our Scottish Shipbuilding client is now recruiting for a Lifting Manager based out of the Port Glasgow / Greenock area. With experience in working on Large Oil & Gas / Shipyard contracts, the Lifting Manager will be responsible for mentoring and developing the skill of the team.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Experience in working on Large Oil & Gas / Shipyard contracts, with ideally 6 years+ in a Senior position
  • Competent in the field of lifting and rigging
  • Knowledge of local and international standards applicable to their position
  • LOLER, OPITO trained
  • Must be able to demonstrate that they possess the required skillset: -
    • Providing relevant examples of having carried out a similar role (through the delivery of a presentation)
    • Experience in utilising various types of lifting equipment (mobile, tower and gantry cranes & familiar with SPMT’s)
    • Evidence of planning lifts using these types of equipment and related accessories such as man riding baskets and tandem lifts
  • Possess relevant qualifications for the management of lifting operations, such as: -
    • Qualified as an Appointed Person
    • Slinger / Signaller
    • Crane and Lift Supervisor
    • Safety qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safety / NEBOSH
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Planning ‘Basic’, ‘Complicated’ and ‘Complex’ lifting operations
  • Review / support / advise / create lifting plans
  • Planning and managing lifting equipment and personnel resources necessary to execute lifting operations
  • Person in Charge (PIC) of lifting operations, ensuring the work is performed in accordance with the Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Develop SSOW in the form of Lift Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments necessary for the safe execution of lifting operations
  • Provided a logical lift risk categorisation following guidance in BS7121
  • Carry out pre-lift toolbox safety talks with lift team personnel and post-lift debriefs, recording lessons learned etc.
  • Supervise lifting equipment maintenance and inspection programmes and compile reports for filing on the client management system
  • Correct storage and handling of lifting equipment including management and control of rigging lofts
  • Daily reporting to discuss lifting operations and lifting equipment related scopes of work
  • Assessment and control measures (risk barriers)
  • Holds the authority independently to escalate their professional opinion within and beyond the organisation that they are involved with when they consider technical integrity is being compromised
  • Provide technical interpretations, decisions and judgement related with the lifting discipline
  • Review and approve standard technical specification, technical deviation from standard technical specification/procedure
  • Capture any required improvements to standards and specifications and include them in future updates
  • Strategic forward thinking i.e. to develop long-range perspective and anticipate potential problems and issues
  • Innovation and generation of new ideas i.e. challenging the status quo and seeing creative and resourceful solutions to problems
  • Strong communication and networking skills
  • Promoting and maintaining lifting safety for the workplace and prevention of dropped objects
  • Lead technical investigations within the lifting discipline, follow any incident or technical failure
  • Review and suggest improvements related to lifting activities
  • Knowledge sharing regarding lifting operations
  • Advise on lifting safety requirements, working at height and lifting operations
  • HSEQ responsibilities
  • Responsible in accordance with company/client procedures ensuring that all process/procedures are auditable and Comply with Company / Client safety rules
