Our client, a maritime training provider based in Glasgow are looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join their team.
 
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the completion of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) of all of the equipment used for operations. The role will also support the Maintenance Specialist in performing tasks related to facility management, unplanned breakdowns and repairs, safe use of power tools, and driving company vehicles.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
Essential:
  • Educated to 3rd Assistant Engineer or Equivalent.
  • 2+ years in a marine / offshore environment, or similar working environment
  • Experience in working under Safe Systems of Work, Standard Operating Procedures and systematic processes.
  • GCSE’S/Standard Grades or Equivalent.
  • Full Driving Licence
Desirable:
  • STA Pool Plant Maintenance Certificate
  • Survitec MK-50 Servicing Certificate
  • Survitec LAPP Servicing Certificate
  • Apeks PSTASS Servicing Certificate
  • Scubapro Mk2 Servicing Certificate
  • Industry recognised certificate for servicing of fire extinguishers
  • Working at Height Awareness
  • CoSHH Awareness
  • Manual Handling Awareness
  • Working with compressed gas systems (Air and Propane)
  • Exceptional knowledge of industry-approved Survival techniques
JOB DESCRIPTION 
  • To support the Maintenance Specialist to achieve the department’s strategic agenda and objective.
  • Responsible for the daily servicing of all PPE used on Survival Courses (Lifejackets, PSTASS etc.)
  • Work to all procedures and processes for a systematic approach to maintaining equipment – including Pool, Propane Fire Props, Lifeboat Davit System, Lifeboats, FRB’s & overhead cranes.
  • Take regular pool samples to ensure the chemical balance is within the required range.
  • Responsible for the unplanned repairs of all consumable equipment, for example, life rafts, fire hoses and survival suits.
  • Responsible for the daily servicing of water and foam extinguishers, used for all fire-related training events.
  • Carry out Pre-Start up checks of the training assets, logging any defects (if detected) within the company EMS.
  • Repair and maintain facility equipment if required. This includes general ‘handyman’ type activities.
  • Update all asset records within the EMS upon completion of a planned/unplanned maintenance.
  • Assist the Maintenance Specialist in any other duties required within the department.
  • Drive company vehicles when required.
