The Regional Mortgage Underwriter, based in Essex, will provide a dedicated onsite service, focussing predominantly on Buy to Let (limited company and individual) but with potential Residential mortgage applications to be processed in accordance with the company’s Lending Policy and service standards.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • A minimum of 3 years underwriting experience within the Buy to Let (limited company and individual) or secured lending or residential or commercial mortgage market
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment and in particular TCF
  • Experience of providing a dedicated resource and managing the priorities therein.
  • Technology skills - including MS Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, planning and problem-solving skills
This onsite position will play a vital role in the development and delivery of the partnership
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Receive initial high-level case enquiries from our business introducing partners and provide feedback on their suitability as an application.
  • Ensuring that all applications and/or associated documents received are processed, accurately and in a timely manner meeting the department and partner service levels.
  • Assess the pre-application enquiries and mortgage application along with supporting documents in line with the company’s Lending Policy.
  • Review information provided by the Credit Reference Agencies and other support partners including anti-fraud agencies, ensuring a full understanding of the applicant’s credit/risk profile.
  • Review and approve the applicant’s overall affordability results.
  • Instruct property valuers to undertake property valuation. Once received, review valuation and assess the key variables including comparables provided.
  • The preparation of mortgage offers is a key function and underwriters will have an understanding of the legal implications of any mortgage conditions applied to the offer.
  • Underwriters will have a full knowledge of the Mortgage Application System and utilise the system to ensure all mortgage applications are processed in line with the company’s service standards.
  • Underwriters will liaise directly with intermediaries on the application ensuring information requested is received as well as providing an excellent level of service to the intermediary.
  • Recommends loans to the Underwriting Manager where they fall outside of the lending mandate held. Providing an appropriate rationale
  • Consider and apply the principle of Treating Customer Fairly (TCF) during the application process.
