Our client is looking to add a Safety Advisor to their team.   Reporting to, and supporting, the Head of Safety & Security, the Safety Advisor will ensure compliance with the relevant safety legislation, the Port Marine Safety Code, the ISPS Code, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO45001 and other standards to which the company subscribes.
 
They Safety Advisor will also assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of a safety management system designed to embed a safety culture with a focus on the shore operations of the business
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • A formal nationally recognised Occupational Health and Safety Qualification such as, NEBOSH National
  • Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
  • Full member of a relevant professional body, such as IOSH
  • Lead auditor qualification
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Extensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislative requirements in a pragmatic way
  • Proven competency in risk assessment and risk management
  • Ability to work competently within remit with the minimum supervision
  • Excellent incident investigation skills with the ability to establish root cause and make suitable recommendations
  • A good understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Port Marine Safety Code
  • Auditing experience, preferably in ISO45001 and ISO9001
  • Experience in conducting safety inspections in a multi-functional environment
  • Working knowledge of Quality company management systems
  • Effective internal and external stakeholder management and influencing skills to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Experience in working with external agencies such as enforcing authorities, auditors and trade unions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, persuasive and influential communicator
  • Skilled in report writing, ensuring they are accurate, concise, informative, easy to understand and written in plain language
  • Ability to successfully plan, develop and implement safety-based projects
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making and pragmatic judgement
  • Experience in working with and using reporting and analysis software
 
JOB DESCRIPTION 
  • Support the Head of Safety & Security to fulfil company objectives
  • Maintain the incident reporting system and process
  • Carry out incident investigations and monitor the timely and effective implementation of subsequent recommendations
  • Liaise with appropriate enforcing authority, such as HSE and Fire Service, when required
  • Review shore incident reports to identify trends and patterns and keep Head of Safety & Security informed
  • Assist in production of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual shore HSQE reports
  • Conduct assurance activities including audits and site visits anywhere in the network
  • Provide competent Safety & Security information, advice and support to colleagues
  • Provide operational staff with support and guidance on risk assessments
  • Assist the development, implementation and maintenance of company HSQE policies and processes
  • Work closely with the other members of the HSQE Team to deliver the Safety Strategy in a consistent and cohesive manner
  • Work on safety projects as assigned by Head of Safety & Security
  • Act as a champion for safety, environment and security and promote the Safety Culture within the business
  • Attend meetings as departmental representative when required
  • Willing to travel around the network and stay in overnight accommodation
  • Deputise for Head of Safety & Security as required
