We require a Senior Technical Manager to join our client based in Gourock on a 23-month fixed term contract. 
 
The Senior Technical Manager will be responsible to the Fleet Technical Reliability Operations Manager and provide comprehensive technical management in support of the day-to-day operation of the Major Vessels Fleet. In addition, the Senior Technical Manager will take accountability for the management and performance of the Technical Reliability major vessels team.
 
As Senior Technical Manager, you will be able to work remotely, however please note that network travel and occasional travel to the head office in Gourock will be required.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Hold an Unlimited Class Chief Engineers Certificate or equivalent to degree level – a Professional Management qualification would also be advantageous.
  • Have a minimum of 7 years’ experience within the maritime industry, ideally having worked as a maritime professional who is capable of exercising sound judgement in both proactive and reactive, vessel operation management scenarios.
  • Previous experience of working as a Technical Manager in a similar post (preferably with Passenger and Vehicle Ferries) demonstrating experience of prioritisation, decision-making and producing results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstratable experience of Project Management & Implementation and an awareness of change management, in addition to experience in planning, resource management and reporting.
  • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft packages, mobile technology, and asset management systems.
  • Highly developed communication skills and ability to build relationships all levels.
  • Have integrity and be passionate about what they do, in addition to a strong work and environmental ethic and eagerness to develop solutions to problems.
  • Be precise and thorough in their approach and promote continuous improvement across the team and functional areas.
  • Be able to demonstrate strong budget management experience with the ability to employ cost control techniques.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in relation to managing, developing, and motivating small high performing teams and demonstrate an understanding of the change management process and how to take staff on the change journey.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION 
 
Operational Management
  • Management of department processes should be in line with company expectations and ensuring consultation is completed with relevant process reviewers when adding, amending, deleting, and reviewing owned processes.
  • Working in conjunction with the Fleet Technical Reliability Operations Manager lead to manage the Technical Reliability Managers team to achieve the standards and objectives set in line with the Asset Management Strategy.
  • Ensuring good management processes and procedures are in place to ensure high performance of a safe, reliable, and efficient fleet of vessels and that these processes and procedures are compliant with the ISM code.
  • Work closely with the vessels to verify that the routine and unplanned maintenance is recorded effectively, and any outstanding items are followed up.
  • Effective and efficient management of all staff working within the department (in addition to recruiting, training, and retaining the best staff and undertaking regular performance reviews and Annual appraisals).
Technical Management
  • Oversee the Technical performance of the vessels, ensuring that they are operated safely, economically, and efficiently maintained to deliver a reliable and punctual service against timetable.
  • Responsible for the resolution of technical issues affecting operations ensuring safe and efficient resolution & minimum time to repair vessels.
  • In relation to Technical Operations manage the interaction with external parties including but not limited to Classification Agency, MCA, MAIB, OEMs, third party suppliers and yards.
  • Liaise with all departments to effectively respond to the vessels EOTR (End of Trip Report) with regards to any technical matters raised.
  • Carry out annual technical inspections for relevant vessels
Department Specific
  • Liaise with and maintain a strong working relationship with the Marine, HSEQ and Service Delivery teams.
  • Responsible for the oversight and operational management of the running repair budget, ensuring that all vessels running repair costs are in line with approved budgets and reported on a monthly basis with justification on both positive and negative variances.
  • Working closely with Asset Management and other internal departments to promote and resolve technical related issues on the fleet including the production/support of management reports & meeting attendance.
  • Support the production of overhaul specifications, planning and preparation, and attendance at overhauls or emergency dockings as requested.
  • Ensuring the relevant vessels comply with the Company Operations Manuals, work instructions and fleet circulars.
HSQE
  • Provide support to the managers in all aspects of health and safety management
  • Review and update Risk Assessments, and ensure understanding amongst staff
  • Ensure that all actions from investigations, inspections, audits, and compliance checks are satisfactorily closed within the stated time
Environmental & Waste Management
  • Ensure that all environmental strategies are implemented within your team and that they are always complaint with environmental legislation.
  • Identify opportunities to further manage environmental risk through improvements to the company procedures.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE ON OFFER 
 
Salary £67,000 - £74,000 plus benefits.
