Technical Assistant

Technical Assistant is required to provide support to the Ship Manager and Superintendents to enable them to ensure all company vessels under their control are maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with the requirements/instructions issued by the client, the Company’s senior management, flag state administrations and classification societies.
 
Please note this is an initial 12 month fixed term contract.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT 
 
Essential
  • Fully completed cadetship / HND or equivalent.
Desirable
  • Degree or equivalent in nautical studies or related discipline.
  • Sailed as a 3rd or 4th Engineer.
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Maintain full knowledge of the Company Safety Management System in order to be able to advise the Operations Manager, Technical Manager and Superintendents as required
  • Assisting the Operations Manager and Technical Manager in preparing, tracking and analysing the various controls and systems as applied to the Fleet
  • Assist with the various audits to achieve and maintain accreditation in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Updating the various Fleet Vessel Databases to ensure that full compliance is maintained by the Fleet Groups
  • Liaising as required with the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and other industry bodies on tanker related issues, as identified
  • Assisting the Fleet Groups in the preparation and submission of responses and reports to external inspections, e.g. Flag State, Port State, SIRE and CDI as well as management of the certificate files.
  • Advise Fleet Groups in all aspects of informative circular notices and technical guidance notices from manufacturers and regulatory bodies.
  • Be involved with energy efficiency incentives for fleet vessels
  • Assist in the monitoring of maintenance schedules (PMS) and defect repair lists.
  • Assist the Technical Manager in dry-dock specification control to include bid analysis and cost control of dry-dockings
  • Occasional travel as required
