Our Belfast based client is looking for a temporary VTS Operator / Port Controller to join their established team on an adhoc basis.
 
THE SUCCESFUL APPLICANT
 
Essential
  • V-103 Certificate Marine Navigational Qualification
  • 5 years recent relevant experience in Port Control operations
  • Knowledge of Safety Procedures
  • Planning and Organising skills
  • Be flexible and adaptable
  • Strong IT skills
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to make prompt, clear decisions which may involve considered risks
  • Acts with confidence and can work unsupervised
  • Works productively in a high pressured environment
  • Ability to ensure clear guidance and direction
Desirable
  • 5 GCSE grade C, or above, including Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Due to the location of Port Control in the Port Operations Centre, it would be desirable that applicants have access to their own transport
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Act under the delegated Authority of the Harbour Master.
  • Operate Port Control to comply with Port, National and International guidelines and legislation.
  • Operate equipment installed for the detection, surveillance, tracking and communication with ships within and approaching the Port.
  • Maintain records and databases associated with Port Control.
  • Implement contingency plans as and when required.
  • Report any apparent or suspected non-compliance or infringement of guidance, laws and directions to the appropriate Authority.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of communications on VHF channels assigned for Port Control purposes.
  • Maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, allied agencies and stakeholders.
  • Dispatch pilots, pilot boats and other personnel, vessels or vehicles in support of the Port’s operation, safety and security
