Electronics Design Engineer (HV Design)

We are recruiting for an Electronics Design Engineer (HV Design) to join our London-based manufacturing client in 6-month rolling contract role inside IR35 (through umbrella).

As an Electronics Design Engineer (HV Design), you will be responsible for providing high-voltage (HV) design expertise, including creepage and clearance considerations, as well as validation activities. You will assess and develop solutions for HV clearance challenges at the PFE level and within HV switch designs.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Degree in electrical/electronic engineering; at least 8 years of experience.
  • Must have end to end HW product development experience involving complex electronics with deep knowledge and strong hands-on experience in:
  • Power electronics (DC-DC converters up to 5kW, HVDC systems).
  • High-voltage engineering (design, validation, standards compliance).
  • Thermal/mechanical integration for high-power systems.
  • Experience in electronics design within a regulated environment.
  • Candidate must have designed & released to Mfg. any 50/400VDC to 3-5kV DC/1.5A, DC-DC converters or similar high-power converter with hand on experience.
  • Specialist in IEC 62368-1 (HV safety, creepage/clearance, insulation coordination).
  • HV risk analysis.
  • Design decisions at suite level, subsystem, and component level (e.g., busbars, isolation, connectors).
  • Must have hands-on experience in high voltage electronics development engineering, power converters, power electronics, closed-loop control systems and SMPS stability analysis.
  • Communication & Team Working: Proactively communicate and work effectively with other team members, and members of other teams throughout the business to achieve project deliverables.
  • Conflict Management: Ability to work with diverse group of people and culture and constructively manage conflicts.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Product development within the following Electrical \ Electronic engineering disciplines:
  • Conceptualization, design, development and validation of LV and HV subsystems used in the PFE such as power converters, High Voltage circuits as per Product and system requirements
For example:
  • Power converters (DC-DC HVDC topologies, high-efficiency designs).
  • High-voltage circuits (e.g., precision high-side current/voltage measurement).
  • Thermal management solutions (mechanical/electronics integration for heat dissipation).
  • HV clearance/creepage assessments (per IEC 62368-1).
  • HV switches.
Technical execution of PFE Hardware from design to qualification:
  • End to end ownership of design as per agreed functionality of the product and system specifications.
  • Ensure development standards and processes are adhered to as per organization QMS standards such as ISO9001-2015 & TL9000.
  • Conduct feasibility studies.
  • FMEA/Risk analysis.
  • Environmental conditions and EMC.
  • Compliance with product safety standard IEC-62368-1 (e.g. creepage, clearances).
  • Reliability, availability & lifetime.
  • Manufacturability & testability (DFx).
  • Cost.
  • Generation of requirement to design specifications, schematics, test plan, test reports, and manufacturing information as required.
