System Design Engineer

Our London based client is looking for an experienced System Design Engineer (PFE), who will assist in defining the architecture required to meet the performance specifications of the company’s next generation PFE product.
 
The System Design Engineer will develop an understanding of the requirements of the PFE in the context of Submarine Cable Systems powering arrangements (including fault tolerance and redundancy) and determine suitable technologies and methodologies to meet the system requirements.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT 
  • Degree in Electronics/Electrical/System Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years working in a System Design and/or electronics design architecture /lead role, with R&D product development on at least one end to end electronics, mechanical and Embedded SW based product development.
  • Experience in HV Power supply design (up to 30kW) & understanding in SW control loop.
  • Good understanding of software and hardware systems.
  • Experience in writing system design technical specification system & subsystem requirements definition.
  • High standard of organisation, communication, and technical specification writing.
JOB DESCRIPTION  
  • Definition of top-level PFE functionality required to meet the operational, environmental and safety requirements of the product.
  • Generation of design budgets/specifications from top Level PFE /system requirements and their allocation between the PFE’s functional blocks down to the sub-blocks.
  • Flow-down of system requirements to subsystem requirement specifications.
  • Liaise with subsystem teams in design proposals considering existing design constraints.
  • Identifying methods and prospective technologies required to meet the feature list and defining blocks for research and development.
  • Partitioning of functions between hardware and software implementation and assessing the impact of architecture choices (including redundancy/duplication) on the PFE and how they affect:
    • Reliability / availability / sparing requirements.
    • Safety and functionality.
    • Maintainability / manufacturability.
    • Cost and size. 
  • Generation of performance and reliability budgets from top Level PFE requirements and budget allocation between the PFE’s functional blocks down to the Replaceable Unit level.​​​​​​​
  • Preparation of requirement specifications for the various sub-blocks as input to the hardware and software design engineers. Specifications to be structured with verifiable requirements for the validation engineers.
